From humble beginnings, RED Winches has grown into a world-class supplier of high-performance and industrial winches, serving the UK and international markets. Our modern, fully equipped production facility is a far cry from the small wooden office where our very first off-road winch was conceived and crafted. Today, RED Winches is an established, trusted name across the commercial, heavy recovery, off-road, and competitive motorsport industries.

A Military Pedigree: Engineered for Supacat & The MoD
The high-performance competition winches we manufacture today were born from a strict, real-world requirement for an elite military vehicle.
In late 2008, we were approached by defense vehicle specialist Supacat in Devon. They required a self-recovery solution for their highly competent Jackal and Coyote vehicles. The brief was unforgiving: the winch had to be incredibly compact, exceptionally powerful, and fit perfectly within a highly restricted space profile.
To prove the winch's capabilities, extensive testing was carried out over several months alongside Supacat and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) at a secure testing area in Somerset. The units were pushed to their absolute limits on platforms ranging from a 200TDi Defender up to Supacat’s six-wheel-drive HMT600 Coyote.
Designing and building a winch to military specification (Mil-Spec) means you cannot simply pull an existing unit off a shelf. It requires precision machining, meticulous engineering design, and premium materials to ensure it is completely fit for purpose when lives are on the line.

Every single RED Winch is British-built, with all core components designed, machined, and assembled in-house under one roof. This complete control over our manufacturing process means we understand every bolt, gear, and electrical circuit in our products, allowing us to fulfill custom orders efficiently and back them up with world-class technical support.
Whether you require an electric or hydraulic system, the entire RED Winches range is engineered to meet stringent J706 standards. They are designed to pull like freight trains when called upon, yet survive perfectly without degradation if left unused for months at a time.
