Case Study: INEOS Grenadier Integration
The Gold Standard in OEM Winch Engineering
Project Overview: RED Winches was selected by INEOS Automotive to design, validate, and manufacture a fully integrated recovery system for the Grenadier.
The Challenge: Automotive Compliance & Seamless Integration
Integrating a high-power winch into a modern vehicle platform requires more than just raw pulling power. The system had to meet stringent global automotive standards while maintaining the vehicle's safety ratings and aesthetic design.
-
Pedestrian Safety: Ensuring the winch housing and bumper integration met strict impact regulations.
-
Crash Testing: Maintaining chassis integrity and airbag deployment timing during high-impact scenarios.
-
Electrical Architecture: Developing a control interface that communicates flawlessly with the vehicle’s CAN bus and power management systems.

The RED Winches Solution
We delivered a comprehensive "Recovery Suite" that is now a signature feature of the Grenadier’s capability.
1. Bespoke Front-Integrated Winch
-
Validation: Fully PPAP-approved (Production Part Approval Process).
-
Environmental Protection: Certified to IP67 Ingress Protection and tested for long-term Salt Spray Resistance to ensure durability in global climates.
-
Compliance: Fully compliant with IMDS (International Material Data System) and EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) standards.
2. Complete Control & Cabling Interface
Beyond the mechanical unit, RED Winches designed the entire electrical loom and driver-interface controls. This ensures the winch isn't just "bolted on," but is a native part of the vehicle’s operating system.
3. Portable Rear Winch System
To provide 360-degree recovery capability, we developed a portable rear winch unit. This system underwent the same rigorous validation as the primary front winch, ensuring consistent reliability under extreme conditions.
4. Certified Recovery Accessory Kits
Every component in the INEOS accessory kit, from shackles to straps, is batch-tested and certified to Minimum Breaking Strain (MBS) standards, providing the end-user with a fully validated recovery ecosystem.
