Troubleshooting Your Wireless Winch Controller

Most wireless control issues are simple to resolve. If your controller is not responding, follow this step-by-step checklist to get back up and running.

1. Check the Handset Battery

The most common cause of signal loss is a low or dead battery in the transmitter.

  • The Battery: Our handsets typically use a 23A 12V battery.

  • The Test: Press any button on the handset. If the LED indicator is dim, flickering, or does not light up at all, replace the battery immediately.

  • Pro Tip: Always keep a spare 23A battery in your glove box or recovery kit!

2. Verify the Receiver Power

The wireless receiver needs a stable power supply from your vehicle’s battery.

  • Wiring Check: Ensure the red (positive) and black (negative) wires are securely connected to a 12V or 24V source.

  • Fuse Inspection: Check any inline fuses you have installed in the power feed. A blown fuse will prevent the receiver from “listening” for the handset signal.

  • Earth/Ground: Ensure the black wire is connected to a clean, paint-free metal surface or the negative battery terminal.

3. Re-Pairing the Handset (Syncing)

If the handset light is bright but the winch won’t move, the “link” between the remote and the box may have been lost.

  • The Reset: Turn off the power to the winch system.

  • The Sync: Hold down both Winch IN and Winch OUT on the handset. While holding them, turn the power back on to the receiver.

  • The Confirmation: Keep the buttons held for 3–5 seconds. The LED should flash or stay solid to indicate a successful pair.

4. Signal Interference & Range

While our controllers have a 75m range, environmental factors can interfere.

  • Line of Sight: Ensure you have a clear view of the vehicle. Large metal objects or high-voltage power lines can occasionally disrupt the 2.4GHz signal.

  • Antenna Position: Ensure the small antenna wire on the receiver box isn’t crushed or shielded behind thick metal plates.

5. Solenoid Clicking?

If you hear the winch solenoid “clicking” but the motor isn’t turning, the wireless controller is working perfectly, the issue likely lies with your winch motor or a flat vehicle battery.
