Selecting the right hook.
When choosing a hook, ensure the Working Load Limit (WLL) or breaking strain exceeds your winch’s pulling capacity.

For 4×4 Recovery: Look for Grade 70 (G70) forged steel hooks, which offer the best balance of weight and incredible strength.

For Synthetic Rope: Ensure the pin and clevis area is smooth to prevent “fretting” or damage to the rope fibres.

Safety Tip: Always inspect your hook for “opening” or distortion after a heavy pull. If the safety latch no longer closes perfectly, it is time to replace the hook.
